This piece was originally designed for a competition conducted in 1990 by Guaranteed Student Loan Services headquartered in Indianapolis. The original design was for a 6-ft grouping on a bench-high granite pedestal/base. Although the concept was favorably received, the cost of the installation, which included enlargement, casting in bronze, construction of the base, and shipping and installation was estimated at $260,000-- roughly about $100,000 more than had been budgeted for the project. The maquette was shelved at that time. Since then, several people have commented on the tranquil serenity of the piece, which interest has led to plans for a future casting of a limited edition, the height of which will be of the order of 18 or 20 inches.
