" Most of my current work consists of a series of figurative stylizations in polished stainless steel. Employing a vocabulary of sparse form, I hope to involve the viewer's own visual and tactile sensibilities. The dancing pools of light and shadow serve to draw the viewer into the soul of the form, while the manifold reflections establish a sense of communication. This reflectiveness of form transcends dimension by conveying an illusion of elasticity, while the fluid tactility of the polished steel emanates a certain sensuousness." AC

I continue to produce my work in both polished stainless steel and patinated bronze. The statement each finish provides is highly individualized. As exemplified by Searider, stainless steel has a number of pleasing attributes. The piece's entire aspect changes from setting to setting, depending on the reflections of its surroundings. Its ability to catch stray bits of light in even dimly lighted spaces serves to enhances its tactility. From the practical perspective, it will retain its original luster and never tarnish, requiring no more care than an occasional dusting.

Born on Friday the thirteenth in February, 1931 in New Castle, Pennsylvania, Andrew Conti holds a B.S. degree from Youngstown State University, an M.S. from the University of Pittsburgh and an M.Phil. from Columbia University, all in Mathematics. He began sculpting in 1967 under the tutelage of Harvey Fite (Opus 40) of Saugerties, New York, while they were colleagues on the faculty of Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson in upstate New York. Sculpting was relegated to an avocation for a number of years while his energies were concentrated on teaching at both the secondary and college levels. When he retired from full-time teaching in the mid-eighties he was able to resume sculpting in earnest.

In the Fall of 1991 the Conti's relocated from the New York City area to Scottsdale, Arizona where they now live with several in-and-out children and, Newton, his mentor cat.

Conti's current work continues to emphasize figurative stylization in cast and polished stainless steel. Works from StudioCONTI are represented in private collections in the U.S., Canada, England, Spain and Japan.
